The Standing Conference of Educational Associations (SKAV) consists of independent initiatives, which strain after positive changes of the Czech educational system in the long term and cooperate in a mutual way to assert them. The SKAV member base expands every year and at present comprises of 17 associations.
SKAV was established in 1999 as an informal coalition of pedagogical initiatives and in 2003 it went through a transformation into a civic association of an identical name and aim. Thanks to this change SKAV became a valid partner in the discussions with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and other subjects, and therefore it can influence the process of educational reform in a better way. On the present, the SKAV representatives are members of many commissions and advisory groups of the Ministry and participate in the creation of many documents and conceptions concerning the educational reform. Most of the SKAV member associations are engaged in teacher training.
All of the SKAV activities are focused on:
- advancing of freedom and diversity in the field of education;
- developing pedagogical accesses that are oriented on a complex evolution of the children´s personality;
- mediation of information exchange between the government administration, self-government, schools and the professional community;
- reinforcement of pedagogical NGOs role at advancing positive changes in the field of the Czech curricular reform;
- creating a professional and skilled base for discussing school documents and the Education Act with government administration representatives.
